being enamored with ‘simple’ or ‘clean’ aesthetics re:fashion reeks so transparently of classism. we all know that a simple outfit only looks good to so-called clothes horses if it also looks expensive. a pair of new balances or a pair of jeans and a tshirt on a working class person from detroit does not have the same coded sartorial weight as it does on say a wealthy influencer in a major city. preoccupation with ‘well-tailored simplicity’ or what the fuck ever feels like a practice in re-enforcing boring, wealthy aesthetics. i don’t care that your white eileen fisher blouse that has no shape cost $200, try actually pairing it with something that looks even remotely interesting. go to a thrift store
